ABOUT JARKESHIA

Jarkeshia is a mental health and resilience speaker who has walked through some of life’s
toughest battles and come out stronger. She knows firsthand what it means to feel lost, broken,
and overwhelmed—but also what it takes to rebuild.

Her journey has been a rollercoaster of loss, health struggles, and unexpected hardships.
From dealing with multiple sclerosis to battling depression and anxiety, life has tested her
resilience. She lost her father to suicide, her grandfather the week before finals, and most
recently, her husband on August 4, 2024. These devastating moments reshaped her
perspective on life, mental health, and the importance of truly checking in on people before it’s
too late.

Jarkeshia has also faced deep struggles with self-esteem, weight issues, and financial
instability. She has endured the stress of near-evictions, financial setbacks, and the emotional
toll of stolen insurance, all while striving to maintain stability. There were times when she battled
suicidal ideation, yet through it all, faith, perseverance, and support have been her anchors.

Now, she uses her story to empower others to navigate hard times, strengthen their mental
well-being, and find purpose in their pain. She speaks to churches, schools, women’s
organizations, and mental health events, equipping people with tools to recognize the silent
battles others face and how a simple check-in can make all the difference.

Her message is simple: You are not alone, and your struggles do not define you. Through
her keynotes and workshops, Jarkeshia teaches how to turn adversity into strength, faith into
action, and check on your people—because you never know who needs it most.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 & 12

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

What is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)?

MHFA is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge.  mm

It also helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis until professional assistance is obtained or the crisis is resolved.

In this training, you will learn a 5-step Action Plan (ALGEE) to recognize warning signs of a mental health or substance use challenge, provide help in crisis and non-crisis situations and understand where to turn for additional assistance.

Self-care is also an important focus of the MHFA training.

When all requirements are met at the completion of this training you will possess the title of Mental Health First Aider.

CHOP

The Check On Your People Movement

Why do we ChOP?

It is important to remember to check in on your people. People can often feel isolated and alone, so it is important to make sure they feel seen and acknowledged. This simple act of checking in can be a powerful reminder to others that they are not alone and that someone is there to support them. A simple question like, “How are you?” can go a long way in making someone feel valued and cared for.

It is also important that we Reverse ChOP. That is letting someone know that we are in need of help and sharing our feelings with others. I was once reminded that how can someone know you need help if you do not ask or tell them.

You may be wondering, “ How do I know who to check on?” Many times God has placed someone on my mind and I instantly send a text message or if I am in person, I have felt led to just ask someone how they are doing and a conversation sparked that was needed in that moment. Pay attention to the prompts, especially if they keep occurring for that same person, it is always for a reason,

We are made to do life together and not alone. So stop today and ChOP or Reverse ChOP if needed.
